British Art

The Quad Fine Art Modern British collection is the youngest of our collections. We are proud to feature some of Britain’s most important 20th-century abstract artists.

The artist presented here embody the spirit of British Postwar Abstraction. Three important generations of the Cornwall artist are presented, from Ben Nicholson to Trevor Bell, Jeremy Annear and Tom Cross. Alongside the St Ives colony, are artists who lived and worked in London, among them Prunella Clough and Bernard Myers, as well as Adrian Heath, who forged key creative links between St Ives and the London Constructivists. Significant links also extended to Europe and the United States with Sandra Blow embracing elements of Italian Arte Povera, Michael Kidner developing his Op-Art style after his encounter with Bauhaus, and William Gear exhibiting with Jackson Pollock in New York and the CoBrA group in Amsterdam.
