Bernard Myers (English, 1925-2007)

  • Both abstract and yet recognisably figurative Bernard Myers’s work exceptionally bridges the abstract/figurative divide in mid-20th-century British art. Myers had a studio near the Thames in Hammersmith that overlooked the river, waterscapes and skyscapes in their ever-changing flux, form a big part of Myers’s work as do cityscapes of the London skyline.

Bernard Myers was born in 1925 and studied at the Royal College of Art alongside John Bratby, Frank Auerbach and Leon Kossoff. Later, he became a teacher at the RCA from 1961 to 1980 where he forged many connections as an artist, designer, teacher and author.
