Roy Conn (English, 1931-2018)

  • Roy Conn’s initial training was in structural engineering but by his mid-twenties, he shifted his attention to painting. Already in the 1950s, Conn showed with The London Group and in 1958 moved to St Ives, joining the vibrant young artist’s colony which developed in Cornwall after the Second World War. In St Ives, he became a member of the Penwith Society of Arts and was elected a full member in 1959. Roy Conn enjoyed both solo shows (Rowan Gallery, London, 1966; Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol, 1969) and many group exhibitions (Belgrave Gallery, London & St Ives; Tate, London; The London Group New Vision Centre, London; Fore Street Gallery, London; Penwith Gallery, St Ives; and others).
