At London Art Fair 2026, we are delighted to present two exhibitions.
At our stand in the Gallery section (G18b), we will focus on Post-war Abstraction from the UK and Europe. Ranging from key names in British Abstraction like Ben Nicholson, Gillian Ayres, and John Hoyland, to Parisian Art Informel by Francis Bott, Jeanne Coppel, and Youla Chapoval, this selection showcases the range of approaches to abstraction that emerged from the 1940s to the 1980s.
Throughout this selection, texture and the painterly surface take centre stage. From dense, sculptural impasto to ephemeral washes, applied with everything from palette knives to bare hands, these works are testament to an important period of reassessment and innovation.
Our second stand is in the Platform section (P4), this year’s edition is curated by Dr Ferren Gipson with the theme of ‘The Unexpected’. We will present an exhibition of works by Peter Jackson (1930–2019).
Two aspects that can be traced through the whole of Peter Jackson’s work are his use of unusual materials and an immense attention to the surface texture of his works. In early compositions Jackson creates surface texture with thickly applied paint, later he begins to mix sand, gravel, and sawdust into paint. He applies thickly-woven pieces of burlap to canvas and then covers them with paint to create a further texture atop of the canvas. Pieces of printed material are glimpsed through the paint creating a further dimension to discover. Jackson’s work is seemingly simple in shape and colour, some monochrome black composition are almost minimalist, but on closer inspection each work has much more to reveal.
