Quad Fine Art is delighted to be returning to the British Art Fair at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea this September.
At British Art Fair 2026, Quad Fine Art will present a selection of original works by Modern British artists, with a focus on abstraction. A key theme running through the selection of works is that they relate to objects, nature, landscape, the body. Abstract yet not non-objective. Many artists engaging with abstraction often meander through periods of figuration and non-objectivity, it is not a linear progression to the absolute language of form and colour, nor is it a point of no return. Some of the pioneers and key proponents of British abstraction, including Ben Nicholson, Adrian Heath and Prunella Clough, continued to incorporate the classical genres of landscape, still life, and nude in their work.
Touching on a similar theme, we are excited to bring to the fair works featuring found, re-purposed and non-art materials. In early ventures into abstraction by the Cubists, everyday objects and scenes were often utilised in compositions to strengthen the connection of this new type of representational art to the real world. A similar idea can be traced through to post-war British abstraction and the use of newspaper or found drift wood fragments, as can be seen in the works by Roy Conn and Rosina Rogers. Through the incorporation of these materials into the structure of abstract compositions, they retain their relation to the real world. Through this selection of works we are also continuing our mission of highlighting historical works by less well-known artists.
