Médard Maertens (Belgian, 1875-1946)

  • Médard Maertens was a Belgian painter, known for his portraits, genre scenes, and landscapes. He was a pupil at the art academies in Tielt, Roulers, Antwerp, and Brussels. He lived in Turkey from 1929 to 1930, and then in Paris, before returning to Belgium and settling in Brussels. He found his style after having explored the discoveries of the Impressionists and the Fauvists.
