Andrej Reiser (German-Slovak, b. 1949)

  • Born in Slovakia in 1949, Andrej Reiser’s family moved to West Germany following the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968. In Germany, Andrej studied photography under Otto Steinert and Willy Fleckhaus at the renowned Folkwang School of Design in Essen. In a praising article in FOTO MAGAZIN in 1983, Willy Fleckhaus describes his former student Reiser as ‘a young man who takes photographs like an old master’. Reiser’s works have appeared in prestigious magazines including Stern, der Spiegel, FAZ-Magazin, Fortune, Epoca, Merian, and others. From 1987 to 1991 Andrej Reiser worked as a photo correspondent in Russia for the German magazine, GEO.

In 1983 Reiser founded Bilderberg, a photo agency in Hamburg. It soon became one of the best-known associations of German photo journalists in Europe, organizing exhibitions and collaborative reportages.

In 1989 Andrej moved back to Prague. Here for 10 years, Andrej Reiser led the International Jury of the prestigious competition Czech Press Photo. Andrej still lives in Prague and his most recent works are created using scanogarphy.
