Eduardo Paolozzi (1924-2005)
Biography
Eduardo Paolozzi was a key figure in postwar British art, co-founding the Independent Group and pioneering Pop Art. From childhood, he collected ephemera, which fueled his lifelong practice of repurposing found objects and images in his work. He studied at the Edinburgh College of Art, Central St Martins, and the Slade School of Fine Art. His time in Paris in the late 1940s brought the lasting influence of Cubism, Surrealism, and Art Brut to his sculpture, collage, and prints. He gained international recognition with exhibitions at the Venice Biennale (1960), the Museum of Modern Art, New York (1964), and the Tate Gallery, London (1971).
